On the 9th & 10th November 2018 I was delighted to host the first zygomatic implant oncology course at the surgical skills centre in manchester. This 2 day hands on cadaveric course was attended by 9 teams comprising of Maxillofacial surgeons and prosthodontists keen to learn about the application of zygomatic Implants in the head and neck cancer patient.
I was delighted to be joined by Dr Claudio Brenner from Santiago, Chile and together we lectured, demonstrated and taught many of the skills we have developed over the past 10 years in our cancer practices.
The course was a huge success in no small part due to the amazing support of Southern Implants, General Medical, Steco and Ivoclar Vivadent our corporate sponsors.
The course comprised hands on placement of standard zygomatic implants and Co-axis implants in the intact maxilla plus procedures modified following Rhinectomy and low level maxillectomy. The delegates worked in pairs as a team to deliver a ZIP Flap reconstruction including the prosthodontics procedures required.
